July 18th 2020
It is with wild enthusiasm that we can announce that the Inaugural Mackenzie Half marathon /10 km /5.5 km is going ahead on July 18th 2020 in Fairlie!!
What a rollercoaster ride it has been for us all and it is going to take a while before we feel we are back to normal again… whatever we perceive Normal to be. However, we feel it is important to send out an email now to verify the fact that the event is really going ahead.
We have changed the start times of all the races with the hope that it may have warmed up a bit!
The times are as follows:
Half marathon 21.1 km 10:00am ( for those who feel they will be longer than 3 hours)
Half marathon run 21.1 km 10:30 am
River Dip 10km 11:00 am
Flat Jack 5.5km 11:15am
Registration will be at the community centre on Friday 17th from 4pm until 8pm. This is directly opposite where the course starts and finishes. Registration will also be available on the day of the race from 8.30am. Race packs and merchandise will be given out at registration.
Prizegiving will be at the community centre at approximately 2.30 pm.
This is obviously going to be held at a MUCH COLDER part of the year than intended so as locals we encourage everyone to wear appropriate gear. There is no compulsory gear but merino gloves, hats and socks are highly recommended. If crossing the river, in 10 km and half marathon, merino socks will not stay cold like cotton running socks. Believe me, it makes all the difference!
Also, a warm baselayer and running jacket are great items to wear as well. We are planning for a beautiful day but you need to be prepared for everything. Also, please have gear to change in immediately after. Don’t forget to bring a change of shoes and socks.
PRIZE…. YES.. For those brave enough .. we have a prize draw for everyone who runs in a kilt! This is Mackenzie country and this is what our men folk wear as their daily attire! So join in the tradition.
This draw will take place at prizegiving so you need to be there to have a chance to win.
We will be sending out more emails and updates in the weeks to come but otherwise… go buy those merino socks and get your kilt out of the cupboard!
