Frequently asked questions
Yes. The 21.1km event includes both running and walking categories. The walking category operates on an honesty system. If you intend to run at any point, even for a few steps, you must enter as a runner.Walkers should begin behind the runners and keep left throughout the course.
The earlier start gives walkers and participants expecting to take longer more time to complete the course before the 2:00pm cut-off.Because participants begin at different times, the first person across the finish line may not necessarily have the fastest overall time.
This is a challenging winter trail event featuring sealed and gravel roads, river tracks, farmland, river crossings and hill climbs. The course includes the climb up Spur Road and the steep Bridle Track descent.
Yes. The course includes river crossings, so participants should expect wet feet. Trail shoes that drain water well are strongly recommended.
No. Roads remain open throughout the event. Participants must follow normal road rules, obey marshal instructions and remain alert for vehicles and other road users.
This is a winter event and conditions can change quickly. Recommended gear includes:Long-sleeved thermal or merino clothingWoollen or merino socksSuitable trail shoesA seam-sealed waterproof jacketA warm hat and glovesAn emergency or survival bagAny personal medication you may requireA complete change of warm, dry clothing is also recommended for after the race.
Yes. All participants must complete the course by 2:00pm.
Prizes are awarded to the leading male and female runners, as well as the winners of each age-group category.Finishers can also check the spot-prize tent at the finish line. Major spot prizes are drawn during prizegiving, and participants must attend to be eligible.
Your registration is for the 21.1km event rather than a specific start time. Choose your start group based on your expected finishing time:9:30am: Walkers and runners expecting to take more than three hours10:00am: Runners expecting to finish in under three hoursYou do not need to change your registration if you decide to start in the other group. Fast or competitive runners should start at 10:00am.
The Fairlie Village Green is the best place for spectators, as they can watch both the start and finish while enjoying the event atmosphere, food vendors and entertainment.Spectators may also watch from safe public areas along the course, but must:Stay off the course and private farmlandKeep roads, gateways and driveways clearPark safely without obstructing trafficFollow the instructions of marshalsNever drive alongside or follow participants
Because roads remain open and some parts of the course are narrow, we strongly recommend the Village Green as the safest and easiest viewing location.
