No — adults are very welcome to take part too. However, this event is really about giving our younger participants a chance to shine. We love seeing the kids celebrated and up on the podium, so the 2.5km isn’t intended as a competitive race for adults.

That depends on your child’s age and confidence. Younger children should have an adult with them, while older children who are confident following the marked course may be able to take part independently. Parents and caregivers are very welcome to join them on the 2.5km course.

Yes — if you are going out on the course with your child, you need to be registered too. This applies even if you have already completed one of the longer events earlier in the day. For safety and event management, everyone taking part on the course needs to be officially registered.

Yes — pushchairs and strollers are welcome on the 2.5km course. Parts of the course are over grass and through the golf course, so a sturdy or all-terrain stroller will be easier to manage. Please be mindful of other participants, keep left where possible, and allow faster runners plenty of room to pass safely.

Yes — balance bikes are welcome on the 2.5km course, provided they have no pedals. Please make sure your child stays under control, keeps left where possible, and is mindful of other participants so faster runners can pass safely.

No — scooters and pedal bikes aren’t permitted on the 2.5km course. Balance bikes without pedals are okay, but for everyone’s safety we ask that children do not use scooters or standard bikes while taking part.

No — the roads are not closed. Please take care at all road crossings, follow the directions of marshals, and stay to the left where possible. Children should be supervised appropriately, particularly when crossing roads.

No — there are no drink stations on the 2.5km course. It’s a short course, so we recommend having a drink before you start and again when you finish. There are, however, lolly stations along the way for a little extra fun!

Yes — the 2.5km is timed. It uses a gun start, so everyone starts from the same official start time. Each participant also wears a timing tag, which records when they cross the finish line so their finishing time can be captured in the results.

Yes — every registered participant who completes the 2.5km receives a Mackenzie Half Marathon medal at the finish line.

Yes — 2.5km participants are eligible for general spot prizes. If your bib number appears on the winning board, you can collect your prize at the finish line.Major spot prizes are different and are only available to participants entered in the 21.1km or 10km events.
