EXPLORE THE MACKENZIE

Make a weekend of it and explore Fairlie and the Mackenzie Region

Each year, as the Mackenzie Half Marathon is planned, the support we are offered from local businesses just amazes us. We could not run this event at the level we do without their support. So instead of coming to town for just the race, why not plan a weekend and visit these local businesses. See what this region has to offer!

Property Brokers

Right from the start, provincial New Zealand has been the place we feel most at home. Here, relationships and trust count for everything. A deal is done on a handshake, and locals judge you on how long they’ve known you.

No one knows property in the regions better than us. To know a market, you need to live in it. You can’t service it from a distance. Our heartland connection means we have the insights to bring the right people together so you get the most value out of your property.

Tekapo Springs

After your event, head up to Tekapo and relax in the pools at Tekapo Springs.

At the heart of the complex are three hot pools and an Aqua Play Area with two cooler pools. Steam and sauna rooms with cold plunge pools are located near the pools. The stunning lake, mountain and forest views are complemented by beautiful landscaping using native alpine plants and trees. The gorgeous Glacial Day Spa overlooks the pools and the onsite cafe is positioned to take in the incredible views, with indoor and outdoor dining.

With its unparalleled mix of relaxation and recreation, Tekapo Springs is a must-do for all travellers, providing an unforgettable experience in the unique destination of stunning Lake Tekapo.

Corporate Print

We would like to give a huge shout out to Corporate Print. As one of our major supporters, they have sponsored all the printing and signage that the Mackenzie Half Marathon has done (and is still yet to do) for the running of this event. From the road signs you see to the information you'll find in your race packs, Corporate Print in Timaru has sponsored this so that more of the money that is raised for this event is returned to the Fairlie Lions. Thanks so much Corporate Print.

If you need any designs, printing, signage, websites or promotional products, make sure you go and visit the team at Corporate Print. They are just amazing!

Mt Cook Alpine Salmon_edited.jpg

Mount Cook Alpine Salmon

A Glistening Wilderness!

Cradled in the  shadows of the Southern Alps is a network of waterways connecting Lake Tekapo, Pukaki and Benmore. These lakes support New Zealand's largest renewable hydro scheme, harnessing millions of gallons of free flowing, pure glacial water, rich in minerals.

In this unique landscape we operate our hatchery, ensuring great care and responsibility are there right from the very beginning.

This inspiring habitat is home to our Freshwater King Salmon. Born to swim they cover the equivalent of a half marathon everyday reveling in the swift flowing currents.

Stop by and visit the Lake Pukaki Store as you weave through the Southern Alps.

Farmlands_edited.jpg

Farmlands

Farmlands Co-operative was formed by farmers for farmers over 55 years ago, with the aim that everybody should prosper. This sentiment remains as strong as ever. Farmlands is the largest buying group of its type in New Zealand, transacting more than 2.5 billion dollars' worth of business annually and is listed in the top 20 companies by turnover in New Zealand. This buying power helps reduce the input costs of more than 70,000 Farmlands shareholders nationwide.

You're never far from the products or advice you need either. Whether you're a farmer, grower or lifestyler, Farmlands staff are trained to provide assistance and technical expertise in the field and across 82 stores throughout New Zealand.

Carnegies.jpg

Carnegies

Set in a stunning, historical building that was originally built as a Carnegie library in the early 1900s, Carnegie’s Restaurant & Bar is a true Mackenzie destination in picturesque Fairlie. Take a moment to appreciate the exterior brickwork and the architecture of this special building before stepping inside the inviting, family friendly restaurant.

Inside, your attention will undoubtedly be drawn towards the large wood fire oven, which sits centre space in the open kitchen. A consistent slow fire inside the oven sets the scene for your dining experience, where just about everything on the menu is cooked. It’s quite an interesting watch, keeping an eye on what goes in and out of the oven door.

Carnegie’s Restaurant & Bar is known for creating classic New Zealand dishes with natural flavours, such as its award-winning lamb rack, venison or beef rib-eye fillet steak. A large selection of wood-fired pizzas have naturally found their way on the menu too, and, let’s face it, there’s nothing like a pizza and a beer in the garden on a sunny summer’s day. Don’t overlook the dessert menu either, as there are some seriously delicious items on there that’ll work wonders in finishing off your meal in style.

During the winter things are kept cosy indoors with the almighty wood fire oven. High ceilings, wooden floors and down-to-earth interiors further add to the down-to-earth environment where the entire family can dine in comfort. Appropriate to the building’s history, you’ll also find a small selection of books on the shelves to browse through.
